Caitlin and Ashley looking for Grandma and Granddad at the airport
James' parents arrived yesterday from Dublin via Amsterdam. We are so excited that they made it. Unfortunately their luggage didn't. Three bags adrift somewhere between Holland and the US. We wait in hope that they arrive on the Thursday flight from from Holland. The girls were so excited that they were coming and were keen to go to the airport to meet them. They chose matching red velvet dresses and their Christmas cardigans (gifts from Uncle John and Auntie Kelly last Christmas). All four of us wore our Santa hats to greet them at the airport.
There is a vantage point by the escalators were the passangers from international flights arrive, pass through customs and take a little train to the terminal. We have stationed ourselves at the glass barrier overlooking this escalator many times before. Caitlin was keen to play the game were we each decide how many minutes we think it will take before we see them and whoever guesses closest wins. None of us won because of their long delay at customs discovering that their luggage didn't make it. They were in remarkably good spirits about it all after the 10 hour flight from Holland (and the journey from Dublin to Amsterdam before that). After James and his Dad did what had to be done at Lost Baggage, we headed home. As there was no unpacking to do to settle in, we ordered a delicious dinner from Chef Liao's and just enjoyed being with Grandma and Granddad. James had picked up a new game, Chinese Checkers, to teach to the girls and Ashley wasted no time producing it to play with Grandma. After the successful introduction of Uno during her last stay I imagine their will be a lot of Chinese Checkers in our immediate future.
