On Saturday I found myself cheerfully making my way to class at The Yoga Tree. It was my second class in two weeks and my third class in under two months. This is progress for me. I haven’t attended a yoga class all year and finally had a chance to enjoy the beautiful new space that The Yoga Tree moved to last January. I’ve really missed my yoga practice, which is probably why I’ve now been to three classes so close to each other once I got started again. Okay, so three classes in two months does not constitute a regular practice but, given how long I’ve been away, regularity will return.
Our good friend Jennifer is one of the instructors there and, although I’ve taken classes with other very fine teachers at The Yoga Tree, in my opinion she is the best. We didn’t know Jennifer before James and I started taking classes at The Yoga Tree, shortly after we moved to the States in 2000. But soon we started having brunch together after her Saturday morning class and our friendship formed. Then we introduced Christian to The Yoga Tree and to Jennifer. Little did we know that we were instruments of fate at the time because a few years later Christian and Jennifer married and now not only are Christian and Jennifer like family to us but The Yoga Tree has become almost an extension of home. Even with the new location I can enter a class, set up my mat and already feel like a warm cozy homemade quilt has been wrapped around me and I'm at peace.
Jennifer is now specializing in Yoga Nidra and I am thrilled that she is leading her first Yoga Nidra Retreat at The Yoga Lodge on Whidbey Island this month. Of course, I’m signed up. Christian will be there too. James, the trooper, will be here in Seattle, being the wonderful father that he is to our two little ones. There’s only one more Saturday morning class between now and the retreat. Let’s see if I make it ![]()
That is just so neat to have that weekend to look forward to. What a nice
boost at this time of year with the days getting shorter and the nights
getting longer.
