Feet Up

posted Thursday, 13 September 2007

Today was Caitlin’s second day of preschool (she’ll go four mornings and stay home Wednesday to continue our library story time ritual). As I left her I felt tearful. This time I had no one waiting to distract me from the feelings associated with this new stage of our family's development. Even knowing that all across the world mothers, fathers and other caregivers are feeling similar emotions didn’t help (well maybe it did a little). So I just let myself feel sad. Thankfully, I did have James waiting for me at home. We had arranged to keep this morning free to be together and spent most of the morning lying on our bed talking and reading. We marveled at the silence in the house, which was a very new experience and we came to the conclusion that this was the first time that the two of us have been alone in the house since we bought it in 2004! James saw it as a taste of life in about 13+ years…Smile

Nice socks and nice blanket at the foot of the bed. No wonder you felt at peace with the silence.

I thought you might recognize those socks and blanket. I hope you can take some pleasure in contributing to our tranquil morning :) Thank you. Love Susan
