For a couple of years now I have been playing The Favorites Game with Ashley and Caitlin. Sometimes with both together, and sometimes when I am alone with them separately, I will ask them a series of questions about their favorite things. It’s a great way to keep in touch with the little details of their likes, dislikes and current things and people who are important to them. The game can help liven up time spent waiting somewhere or create a bonding moment together over a cup of hot chocolate at the local second hand bookshop. The questions sometimes lead to very silly conversations and sometimes very deep conversations. There are some core questions I usually ask and then just come up others in the moment. When they are done they usually just say, “I don’t want to play anymore.” But I can tell when they are really interested because if I try to stop they will continue to press me with, “ask another question.” Here is a sample from a recent game:
