Out of the Mouth of Kids...

This morning the girls joined us in our newly restored bed (yes, we finally sorted that all out yesteraday afternoon and are now equipped with a mattress of usual odor). We snuggled and read a Christmas story and then Caitlin flopped down and dramatically announced, "I'm hungry". Having read their Billy Goats Gruff book to them over and over these last couple of years I found myself automatically orating the story from memory, complete with my Billy Goats Gruff and troll voices, much to Caitlin's delight:

Mum: ""I'm hungry," says the first Billy Goat Gruff.
"I'm going over the bridge to eat some grass."
Trip, trap. Trip, trap.
Up jumps the troll.
"I'm going to eat you up says the troll."
"Oh, no. Don't eat me", says the first Billy Goat Gruff. "Eat the second Billy Goat Gruff, he's big and fat."
(And off he goes over the bridge to eat the grass).

"I'm hungry," says the second Billy Goat Gruff.
"I'm going over the bridge to eat some grass."
Trip, trap. Trip, trap.
Up jumps the troll.
"I'm going to eat you up says the troll."
"Oh, no. Don't eat me", says the second Billy Goat Gruff. "Eat the third Billy Goat Gruff, he's big and fat."
(And off he goes over the bridge to eat the grass)...

Dad (raised eyebrows and amused tone of voice to Ashley: Why is your Mum doing that?
Ashley (after only a slight pause and with big dramatic eyes): "Because she's out of her mind!"

After this we all collapsed into giggles and finished off the third Billy Goat Gruff together.

(I don't know what surprised me the most, the fact that Ashley knows that particular expression or that there was only a very slight pause before she gave the response?!)
