Ashley's Kindergarten class celebrated 100 days of school. Each child was asked to bring in a collection of 100 objects. After dinner a few nights ago the whole family brainstormed ideas. We thought about Caitlin's collection of pinecones, which she keeps then in a basket by the fireplace in the living room. Ashley decided to bring them to the table and count them because we all thought there was much less than 100 in the basket. To our surprise and delight there was 91. Caitlin very generously agreed that Ashley could bring the pinecones and basket to school for the week. This was very big gesture because these pinecones are Caitlin's most treasured possessions. Ashley then collected 9 more to add to the collection.
Although Caitlin had been home sick for school Ashley really wanted us to come to her class in the afternoon when they would be counting the collections and engaging in other activities around the theme of 100. Caitlin and I didn't stay very long. But it was fun to see how focused the children were in the activities as they enjoyed the celebrations.
